![]() Sprint 3: 2pm to 2.45pmĪt 2pm I decided I'd better get back to it, as I wasn't even halfway! It was a little tough initially to get back in the flow, but once I did, I felt like I was really going for it!īy the end of the sprint I had managed to add another 2,351 words to my word count!Ĭurrent word count: 6,709 Sprint 4: 3pm to 3.45pm I tried out my new soup maker (I made tomato soup! Yummy!) and ate my lunch whilst watching an episode of Catfish. I set a timer for 45 minutes on the Forest app (it's very satisfying when you grow a tree!), set my Fantasy Chill playlist going, and got started!ĭespite my initial lack of motivation I quickly got in the flow during this first sprint, finishing off the chapter I was in the middle of, and writing most of the next one.īy the time my timer went off I was surprised to find I'd already written 2,365 words! Already a fifth of the way done!Ĭurrent word count: 2,365 Sprint 2: 11am to 11.45amĪfter a short break where I got a new drink and a snack, I set off again! Because I was in the middle of an action scene it was quite easy to get back into it, and the time seemed to pass quickly.īy the end of the sprint I had written 1,993 words! Not as great as the last sprint, but good progress!Īfter my first two sprints I took a couple of hours off as a break to do some more cleaning, and eat some lunch. When I got home, I headed up to my office, plonked myself down and fired up the laptop for writing sprint number one. I woke up around 8am, but spent first thing having a bit of a tidy around the house and then I dropped my boyfriend off at work at 9.30am. I have to say, I wasn't feeling overly motivated when I woke up, but I hoped I'd get into it once I got started. It was tough to know how far into the story 10,000 words was going to take me, so I just had to cross my fingers I'd planned far enough ahead! How did the day go? I already had a plan for the novel, but I used the scene cards from Lisa Cron's Story Genius book to plot out the specific scenes. So the day before I took the time to sit down and plot out all the scenes I planned to write during my 10,000 word writing day, so I wouldn't have to think too much about where I was going. I knew with this challenge I was going to need to work fast, unless I wanted to be literally chained to my computer all day. Then we'll get to the juicy stuff: did I manage it? How I Prepared to Write 10,000 Words in A Day I also did plenty of prep to make sure I was ready, so let's talk about that first. ![]() I knew I would need a lot of time for this, so I chose a Sunday because I was off work, and since my boyfriend was at work, I knew I would just be in the house alone all day. ![]() ![]() Probably my best writing day prior to this challenge was 5,000 words written in a day, so this really was a big goal - I planned to double it! The first one I decided to do was one I've seen a lot on authortube: a 10K writing day! One thing I planned to do when I started this blog was regular writing challenges and experiments, which I would then report back about here. ![]()
